2019 EGM and AGM
PRESENTATION NIGHT - SATURDAY 10TH NOVEMBER
On Saturday we had a well-attended and very enjoyable Presentation Night, with good food, plenty to drink and a lot of prizes to hand out. Some photographs of the evening are on the Photo 2018 page courtesy of Pat Spicer.
CLOSING OF THE GREEN, BLACKADDER PAIRS - SUNDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER
The last competition of the season was the Blackadder Pairs, an Australian Pairs game which was so well supported that seven rinks were needed on the green. This made for some tricky roads but the worthy winners in the end were Peter Gardiner and Tom MacDougall with four wins and a draw from their five games. Runners up were Roseanne McRobert and Roddy McRobert with four wins. Congratulations to them.
The rain held off until the very last end of the last game, and we have had some very good bowling weather all season. Hibernation now beckons and I look forward to seeing everybody back on the green next April.
BARHAUL TROPHY - SATURDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER
On Saturday eight pairs contested the Barhaul Trophy, a two bowl pairs competition played in sets format. The final saw George Keirs and Roddy McRobert taking on Neil Baillie and Richie Baird and it was the latter pairing that came out on top by two sets to love. There are some pictures of the final on the Photos 2018 page, courtesy of Pat Spicer.
FRIENDLY V ALMOND VALLEY - SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER
Our penultimate friendly of the season was a visit to a very hospitable Almond Valley. The weather stayed kind and a very enjoyable afternoon's bowling ended in a victory for Almond Valley by 70-74 shots. Congratulations to them, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Aberfeldy next season.
NOMINATION PAIRS FINAL - FRIDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER
The Nomination Pairs Final took place on Friday with Douglas Craik and Jimmy Hermiston taking on David Campbell and Roseanne McRobert. In the semi-finals the previous evening Douglas and Jimmy had beaten Billy and John Devlin, while David and Roseanne got by Colin Dow and Amanda Fenwick. There was initially very little between the two teams, but perhaps the turning point in the game came when 8-5 and three shots down on the end, Douglas managed to ditch the jack to score two; thereafter with Jimmy putting plenty of bowls on top of the white, he and Douglas stretched away to a good win.
Some pictures of the players in action are on the Photos 2018 page.
RINK NIGHT LEAGUE LATEST - 12th SEPTEMBER
With just two weeks of the season to go, the latest Rink Night League table is here.
FRIENDLY V CRIEFF - SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER
Saturday saw the visit of Crieff for a friendly match and it was one of those days where the season seems to be finishing too early - warm and sunny and the green was playing beautifully. After a closely contested but friendly game the final score was Aberfeldy 66 v 60 Crieff.
GENTS' MEDAL FINAL - FRIDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER
The last of the finals took place on Friday. Contesting the Gents' Medal this year were Douglas Craik and Jim Adams, and it was Jim who prevailed, winning convincingly by 21-10. Congratulations to him on his first win in the Medal, and commiserations to Douglas who was runner-up for the second successive year.
SENIOR INVITATION TRIPLES - THURSDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER
Twenty four triples did battle for the Senior Invitation Triples on Thursday, and while the weather was less kind than of late, it was a very successful day as always. In the final, the Perth trio of H. Hutchison, S. Hutchison and B. Sidey beat the local trio of D. Craik, M. Findlay and N. Baillie by a single shot. Congratulations to them, and many thanks to our sponsors, Gaulds and Golden Charter for their support of the day.
FRIENDLY V HAMILTON - SUNDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER
It was a trip to Hamilton on Sunday for the annual friendly. As always, we were royally hosted, fed and watered, and there were some good bowls played too. This year it was Hamilton's turn to claim the Quaich, with a victory by 76-62. Congratulations to them, and we look forward to regaining the prize when we host them next year.
Senior Invitation Pairs winners with organiser Tom MacDougall and Derek Whittman from sponsors Gaulds.
TAYLOR TOP TEAM - SATURDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
The second Taylor Top Team competition was run on Saturday, with four teams of four contesting the title, playing alternately two pairs and a singles and triple. The eventual worthy winners were Roddy McRobert, George Keirs, Peter Gardiner and Norrie Rattray. There are some pictures of the event on the Photos page, courtesy of Pat Spicer.
FINALS WEEK - THURSDAY 30TH AND FRIDAY 31ST AUGUST
Thursday saw the final of the second of the handicap competitions, the Black Watch which once again saw Peter Gardiner up against Colin Dow. This time it was Peter who came out on top, winning by 21-16.
Friday was the Reid Cup - the Club Championship - between Neil Baillie and Richie Baird. The first half of the game was very evenly contested with a score of eleven all after twelve ends, but then Richie lost the jack in the ditch and didn't get it back again.
The Gents' Medal is still to come, to be played on Friday 7th September at 6.00pm between Douglas Craik and Jim Adams.
FINALS WEEK - WEDNESDAY 29TH AUGUST
Congratulations to Anne Woolley, winner of the Ladies Championship, Colin Dow, winner of the President's Prize and Neil Baillie, winner of the Senior Singles. Commiserations to the runners up, Amanda Fenwick, Peter Gardiner and Tom MacDougall.
On Monday, Peter Jack was the first winner of the week, beating Peter Gardiner in the final of the Pitilie Shield.
RINK NIGHT LEAGUE
The Rink Night League table has been updated to the end of August.
SUNDAY 26TH AUGUST
The Stewart Triples competition was played on Sunday. It drizzled for the first few hours, but the weather did eventually clear up. After a closely fought contest, the eventual winners with 10pts out of a possible 12 were Anne Walls, Cathie Lambie and Neil Baillie - pictured right along with Vice President Colin Dow who presented the trophy.
MONDAY 27TH AUGUST - FRIDAY 31ST AUGUST
Finals week begins on Monday with the Pitilie Shield between Peter Jack and Peter Gardiner. For a full list of the finals, visit the Finals Week page.
FRIENDLY V NEWPORT
SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST
Aberfeldy's 100% winning record in friendlies this season came to an end at Newport, where the home team were 65-62 winners in a match which was only as close as that thanks to the efforts of the Newport rink who played for Aberfeldy and were top rink on the day. But it was another enjoyable (and dry for the duration) afternoon. Congratulations to Newport on both their win, and the celebration of their 150th Anniversary.
SALSC GENTS TOURNAMENT AT ABERFELDY
THURSDAY 9TH AUGUST
The SALSC Gents Tournament was hosted at Aberfeldy this year for the second time, with eight rinks from far flung parts of the country. Once the missing players from Nairn who came to Aberfeldy via Perth(!) had arrived, a competitive and enjoyable tournament took place. Once again the weather was kind to us, and in a tense final between Aberfeldy and Nairn A, Aberfeldy managed to force an extra end on the tightest of measures and then won the extra end to complete a very satisfactory day for the home team and supporters.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the day.
FRIENDLY V BLAIRGOWRIE
SUNDAY 5TH AUGUST
Sunday was the occasion of a visit to Blairgowrie for a friendly match celebrating their 150th Anniversary. The weather stayed fair, the green played well, and Aberfeldy BC kept up their 100% record in friendlies this season, winning by 77 shots to 68. Mary Buchanan and Muriel Findlay managed to carry the President to the award for top triple on the day with a 24-10 victory.
BARNETT TROPHY - MIXED PAIRS
MONDAY 30 JULY - FRIDAY 3RD AUGUST
This week saw nine mixed pairs competing for the Barnett Trophy. The winners were Anne Woolley and Roddy McRobert, who beat Anne Walls and Neil Baillie in the final. Congratulations to Anne and Roddy who are pictured right with the trophy. There are some more photos of the final on the Photos 2018 page.

NPBA AUSTRALIAN PAIRS
SATURDAY 7TH JULY
Aberfeldy BC hosted the NPBA Australian Pairs Competition on Saturday. It was another hot and sunny day and after some very competitive bowling the final was fought out between Past President Niel Haggart, partnered by John Anderson, and Aberfeldy A, represented by Douglas Craik and Neil Baillie. With the score at 5-5 after five ends, Niel Haggart managed to move the white back up the green with the last bowl to win the match. Congratulations to Niel and John. Some pictures of the day can be seen on the Photos 2018 page.
FRIDAY 29TH JUNE TO SUNDAY 1ST JULY
The Greenscape Pairs competition was played over this weekend, concluding with the semi-finals and final being played on Sunday afternoon. The finalists were Colin Dow and John Devlin (who beat Roddy and Hamie McRobert in their semi) and Billy Devlin and Neil Baillie (who beat Douglas Craik and David Campbell). The final was closely contested with the score tied at 11 apiece with just three ends to go, but Colin and John won all three of those ends to run out deserved victors. Congatulations to them.
PERTHSHIRE V HIGHLAND
SATURDAY 23RD JUNE
We were privileged to host Perthshire's final game of the season in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy against Highland Bowling Association on Saturday. While Perthshire were only playing for pride, Highland needed to secure at least a draw to ensure qualification for the quarter-finals of the competition. In a very exciting finish Highland gradually overhauled the lead Perthshire had held from the start to win by a single shot 111-112. Congratulations to the Highland team and good luck in the next round.
SUNDAY 17TH JUNE
Sunday saw an internal singles competition for the Leszke Trophy, and we were pleased to welcome sponsor Willie Leszke for this annual event. After an excellent afternoon of bowling, both semi-finals required an extra end before a winner was found, but eventually Roddy McRobert beat Tom MacDougall and Billy Devlin beat Neil Baillie. In the final it was Roddy who came out on top, thus keeping the trophy in the family as it was brother Hamie who won it last year.
Pictured right, winner Roddy McRobert with sponsor Willie Leszke.
SUNDAY 10TH JUNE
Sunday was a beautiful day for the Open Triples competition. Twenty four teams contested the prize, and after the group stages the semi-finals were both closely fought, with the trio from Glencarse beating their rivals from Almond Valley, and the Perth trio winning their game. The final was won by the Glencarse trio of Gary Grant, Jordan Baptie and Mark Biondi. Congratulations to them.

SATURDAY 19TH MAY

NPL v GRANDTULLY
WEDNESDAY 16TH MAY 2018
The North Perthshire League season began with a home win against Grandtully, with only a very narrow defeat in the Singles preventing an Aberfeldy clean sweep.

FRIENDLY V NEWBURGH
SATURDAY 28TH APRIL 2018
The first friendly of the season was played on Saturday against visitors Newburgh. An excellent afternoon for bowling despite the dire weather forecast resulted in a narrow win for Aberfeldy, due in no small part to the efforts of the top rink on the day, Jimmy Hermiston, Hamie McRobert and skip Richie Baird.
