PRESENTATION EVENING POSTPONED
Members please note that because of work on the clubhouse, the Presentation Evening that was scheduled for 9th November has been postponed, with a date to be announced depending on the progress of the building work.
It may also be necessary to rearrange the AGM, so watch this space for further news. The Secretary will also be emailing club members with further information.
SENIOR INVITATION TRIPLES RAISES £900 FOR PROSTATE CANCER UK
Congratulations to all involved, but particularly to Tom MacDougall for all his work and to Muriel Findlay, whose sponsored walk raised an impressive £534 for the cause. The raffle made £317 and with the balance from the tournament a total of £900 was donated to Prostate Cancer UK.
BARHAUL TROPHY AND BLACKADDER PAIRS, 28TH AND 29TH SEPTEMBER
The final weekend of the season saw the Barhaul Trophy (thanks to generous sponsors Barhaul) two bowl pairs competition and the Blackadder Pairs (Australian Pairs format) monopolised by a pair of Jims. Jim Adams and Jim Hermiston were drawn as partners in both competitions by some quirk of fate, but there was no quirk about their performance as they triumphed on both days. Runners up in the Barhaul Trophy were Tom MacDougall and Richie Baird, while Sunday's runners up were Anne Walls and Chris Bounce.
SENIOR INVITATION TRIPLES - 5TH SEPTEMBER
The Senior Invitation Triples, known across the county as "Tom's Day" in recognition of Tom MacDougall's service as the organiser of one of the best day's bowling in the calendar, was held on Thursday 5th. Once again there was a full house of twenty four triples taking part, and after an excellent day of bowling, the final was won by John Anderson's triple from Pitlochry. They beat the home team of Neil Baillie, Muriel Findlay and Douglas Craik in the final.
Many thanks to Gaulds, the generous sponsors of the event.
TAYLOR TOP TEAM - SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST
The Taylor Top Team competition was held on Saturday, and the unbeaten winning team was Roddy McRobert, Anne Woolley and Alison Steele. Congratulations to them, especially Alison who was winning her second event in a week.

STEWART TRIPLES - SUNDAY 25th AUGUST
The Stewart Triples took place on one of the hottest days of the summer, and we had a good turnout of 24 players for the competition. The winners of the two groups met in the final in which Alison Steele, Davy Scott and Neil Baillie beat Sandra Devlin, Muriel Findlay and Tom MacDougall. Pictured right, Alison, Davy and Neil receiving the trophy from Past President Peter Woolley.
BARNETT TROPHY - MIXED PAIRS
Jean Taggart recently celebrated her 90th birthday in the club, and then went on to prove that age is no barrier to success in bowls by winning the Barnett Trophy with Douglas Craik. Congratulations on both counts to Jean, and well done to the runners-up, Anne Walls and John Devlin. Pictured right, Jean receiving the trophy from President Billy Devlin.
FRIDAY 19TH JULY - CLUB PAIRS
The Club Pairs competition, kindly sponsored by Stephen Dow, took place over the course of this week. The semi-finals on Thursday provided a couple of excellent games to watch, with Chris Boynes and Richie Baird narrowly defeating Muriel Findlay and Tony Hull while in the other game Norrie Rattray and Jimmy Hermiston beat Stephen Dow and Roddy McRobert.
The final was a great contest with Jimmy and Norrie going into a 12-4 lead at the half-way point, but then the rain started to come down in earnest and it was Richie and Chris who were better able to cope with the conditions, getting in front on the penultimate end and holding on to that lead. Pictured right are the winners with sponsor Stephen Dow and Past President Anne Woolley who made the presentation.
There are some photos of the players in action on the Photos 2019 page.
BS SEMI-FINALS - LETTER FROM DISTRICT SECRETARY, RON ANDERSON
Men's District Semi Finals 2019
I write to congratulate you and your members for the excellent job you all did in hosting the District 6 semi-finals on Tuesday, 11th June 2019.
Aberfeldy BC provided a green in excellent condition and your hospitality was superb. Please pass on my grateful thanks to all that helped make the evening the undoubted success it was. A special thanks to the green staff, bar staff and the ladies who prepared and served the lovely buffet.
The feedback I have received regarding the semi-finals and the final have been very positive and pleasing to see such a good turnout of spectators at all venues.
Yours in sport,
Bowls Scotland District Secretary
NPL AUSTRALIAN PAIRS - SATURDAY 6TH JULY
Aberfeldy hosted the NPL Australian Pairs competition on Saturday with sixteen pairs competing for the title. Four of these were from Aberfeldy, and all four pairs managed to qualify for the quarter-finals from their groups, and three of those made it through to the semi-finals. In the all Aberfeldy semi-final, Douglas Craik and Neil Baillie beat Peter Gardiner and Richie Baird, while the other semi-final saw the Aberfeldy pair of Chris Boynes and Adam Gallie lose out to Pitlochry A.
In the final Pitlochry established an early lead and still led by three going in to the last end, but Neil and Douglas managed to score three shots and force the extra end which they also won to take the title, some consolation for last year's last bowl defeat.
OPEN TRIPLES - SUNDAY 9TH JUNE
The Open Triples competition was well supported as always, with a full complement of twenty four teams competing in four sections. Aberfeldy were well represented with two teams playing each other at the semi-final stage, where Douglas Craik's trio beat Richie Baird, Peter Gardiner and Davy Scott. In the other semi-final the visitors from Shettleston recovered from dropping five shots at the first end to beat Dick Brown's team with an unbeatable bowl and jack in the ditch at the last end.
The final was a triumph for the home team of Douglas Craik, George Dark and Anne Woolley who were in control throughout.
Congratulations to them and thanks to everyone who contributed to making this such a successful day for the club. There are some pictures of the day in the Photo section.
TRY BOWLS DAY - SATURDAY 27TH JUNE
Come along on Saturday 27th June, 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. See attached flyer.
PREPARING FOR THE OPEN TRIPLES AND THE BS DISTRICT 6 SEMI-FINALS
Thanks to everyone who helped with the hedge-cutting this week, which along with work on the green and surroundings is helping to spruce up Aberfeldy BC in preparation for our Open Triples competition on Sunday 7th June and for the BS District 6 semi-finals on Tuesday 11 June.
MORE LEAGUE RESULTS - JUNE
The win against Blair Atholl was followed by two wins by 6-2 against Grandtully and Dunkeld, but the wheels fell off at home against Spittalfield on 5th June with a 0-8 defeat which put a large dent in our hopes of regaining the league title.
WEDNESDAY 15TH MAY - NPL V BLAIR ATHOLL
The 2019 NPL season got under way on Wednesday evening with a good performance from Aberfeldy, who took all eight points from the match. There are some pictures on the Photos 2019 page.
SATURDAY 4TH MAY - FRIENDLY V FALKIRK
The second friendly match of the season was away at Falkirk. This was a much more closely contested affair than last week's game, and the final score was Aberfeldy 59 - 55 Falkirk. Congratulations to the winning players, with a particular mention for Gavin Stewart who made a winning debut as a skip.
SATURDAY 27TH APRIL - FRIENDLY V NEWBURGH
The first friendly of the season was played at Newburgh and resulted in a beating for Aberfeldy by 71 shots to 44. Congratulations to Newburgh on their victory.
Some photos of the occasion can be seen on the Photos 2019 page, courtesy of Pat Spicer.
13TH APRIL 2019 OPENING OF THE GREEN
Saturday was a cold but dry day for the Opening. There was a good turnout of members to see Roseanne McRobert deliver the first jack of the season, followed by a closely contested game between the President's team and the Past President's team which ended in a draw, 49 shots apiece.
Some pictures of the occasion can be seen on the Photos 2019 page.
FRIDAY 26TH APRIL - McKINLAY 2 BOWL SINGLES
The first competition of the season was the McKinlay 2 Bowl Singles, and after three rounds of matches the final was contested by Roddy McRobert and Neil Baillie. Roddy got off to a strong start and led 9-3 after 8 ends of the 21, but he was gradually pegged back and the players went into the final end at 13 apiece. That end was won by Neil and was the only time in the match when he was ahead. Thanks to everyone who took part and particularly to those who marked ties. Pictured right, the winner receiving the trophy from President Billy Devlin.
OPENING OF THE GREEN
